Poplar borer

First COVID, then murder hornets ... and now poplar borers, which have found their way to the boat club. Poplar borers are native to Alberta and infest aspen poplars. Unfortunately, they also like Swedish Columnar aspens and Tower poplars which are aspen hybrids and there are many of these at the boat club.
The adults are large beetles that emerge in spring and summer, mate and lay eggs in poplar trunks.

Many of our poplars are infested and there is not a lot you can do to kill them once the larvae are establish inside the trucks. The only good thing is that it can take a few years to kill trees.
